GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER

1. DEFINITION AND PRODUCTION

Glued laminated timber is manufactured from dried lamellae of coniferous species (Carpathian spruce). The lamellae are finger-jointed and glued with adhesives certified for load-bearing structures in the EU (AkzoNobel GripPro Plus, Jowapur 686.30).
Moisture content of the finished product is 8–14%. Length can reach 18 m, allowing for large spans without joints.

2. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

• Density: 420–480 kg/m³
• Thermal conductivity (λ): 0.13–0.15 W/m·K
• Vapor permeability: 0.3–0.6 mg/(m·h·Pa)
• Compressive strength: 40–50 MPa
• Bending strength: 24–28 MPa
• Modulus of elasticity: ~10,000 N/mm²
• Geometric tolerances: ±0.5–1 mm

3. THERMAL COMPARISON WITH BRICK

The thermal conductivity coefficient of wood is 6–8 times lower than that of solid brick. This means that a timber wall is much thinner for the same thermal insulation.

A timber wall 200 mm thick equals the thermal insulation of ~1.25 m of solid brick.
